Peru offers a large choice of train itineraries: Whether it be starting fromau historic Cuzco, in the direction of the Sacred Valley and the legendary ruins of Machu Picchu or with destination mystical lake Titicaca. Without forgetting the highest train ride in the world which will take you to Huancayo.

From Lima to Huancayo

The train leaves from the Desamparados Train Station in the Historic Center of Lima and arrive in Huancayo on the same day. It makes two tourist stops. The first one at the San Bartolomé Train Station and the second one in the Galera Train Station, considered the highest in the world at 4,782 meters (15,688 feet) above sea level.
On both occasions, tourists will have the chance to take spectacular photographs and capture the scenic panoramic landscape. During the journey, the train will pass through 71 tunnels, cross 68 bridges and traverse 6 zigzag rail routes which can be seen from the comfort of your seat. This train has first class coaches, with adjustable seats, heater, restaurant, toilets, nursery with first aid drugs and oxygen. Departure: every Friday morning Return: every Sunday night

From Cuzco to Machu Picchu

Most visitors head directly to Machu Picchu from Cuzco, a truly spectacular journey. There are three tourist trains from Cuzco to Machu Picchu, taking just under 4 hours.

The luxurious train Hiram Bingham. The distinctive blue and gold carriages of the Hiram Bingham are warm and inviting with elegant interior upholstery. The train, consisting of 2 dining cars, a bar car and a kitchen car, can carry up to 84 passengers. The general style of the carriages is in line with those ’Andean Explorer’ train, and reflect the luxury of the 1920s Pullman era. The Hiram Bingham departs Cusco at 9 am.
Brunch is served on board the train whilst travelers enjoy the spectacular scenery unfolding before them from the large windows.
The arrival at Machu Picchu at 12.30pm gives passengers the advantage of entering the Sanctuary at an hour when the majority of the visitors are already beginning to leave for their journey back to Cuzco. This not only gives the opportunity to experience the ancient citadel at Machu Picchu in relative solitude, but also with a longer period of time there, and passengers only return to the train as the sun goes down. Once back on board for a 6.30pm departure, pre-dinner cocktails are served in the bar accompanied by live entertainment before passengers enjoy a 4-course, “A la carte” dinner, in the dining cars.
The train pulls into Poroy station in Cuzco at 10pm.

In first-class Vistadome. The Vistadome trains have beautiful panoramic windows offering unsurpassed scenic views and photographic opportunities. With glass surrounding them on all sides, passengers feel as if they are part of Peru’s remarkable landscape. Snacks and hot and cold refreshments are included on the journey. One Vistadome service runs between Cusco - Poroy - Machu Picchu. The other Vistadome service runs between The Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo) - Machu Picchu. Departure: Everyday

The Backpacker trains. They are the most economical way to travel on the route between Machu Picchu, The Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo) and Cuzco. This service is ideal for our adventure passengers or for those seeking comfort and security, without all the frills. These carriages offer travelers a true Peruvian experience. Seats are upholstered with indigenous fabrics, giving a touch of local flavor. Snacks are served at an additional cost and additional storage space is available for backpacks. There are two Backpacker services, one that runs between Cuzco and Machu Picchu, and the second Backpacker service, which runs between The Sacred Valley (Ollantaytambo) - Machu Picchu. The service from Ollantaytambo (Sacred Valley) is the fastest way to reach Machu Picchu. Departure: Everyday

From Cuzco to Lake Titicaca

This spectacular rail journey begins in historic Cusco and travels south to the beautiful city of Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Exquisitely decorated in the manner of the great Pullman trains of the 1920’s, the Andean Explorer boasts a full fleet of refurbished coaches. On the journey, the train makes a gentle climb to higher and cooler altitudes. The first half of the journey is dominated by the magnificent Andean mountains, which towers over the deep valleys of the meandering Huatanay River. It then reaches the gentler, rolling Andean Plains, where vicuña and alpaca can be seen.
If traveling aboard the Andean Explorer, the glass-walled observation car provides the perfect opportunity to view the beautiful scenery. The journey is broken by a scenic stop at La Raya, which is also the highest point on the route. This is a luxurious way to travel between Lake Titicaca and Cuzco. On the journey passengers are served a three-course lunch in their dining car, followed by coffee served in the Observation-Bar Car. Travelers can choose to travel on either the first class carriages of the Andean Explorer or the Backpacker carriages.
Departure: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
