Along the way
The Coporuna is one of the summits to be climbed for those who wish to make an in-depth exploration of the Colca Canyon. The whole region has been greatly affected by enormous volcanic eruptions, albeit far in the past, which today serve to give us these fabulous landscapes as chaotic as they are varied… Ancient valleys formed by time-immemorial lava flows, the snow-capped peaks of the twin mountains Copuruna and Solimana and more, but a description would not do justice to the beauty of the area; so we leave it for you to discover...

Daily program
COROPUNA ascent – 3 days (SOUTH ROUTE)
Day 1: AREQUIPA – CHUQUIBAMBA – LAGOON PALLARCOCHA
In the early morning, we depart in our private vehicle for the Majes Valley, in the direction of the village of Chuquibamba. Then, turn off towards Cotahasi in order to reach the base of the mountain.
Night in a camp, next to Lagoon Pallarcocha (el. 5000 m.a.s.l. / 16,404 feet).
All included.
Hiking time: around 8 hours.
Day 2: LAGOON PALLARCOCHA – BASE CAMP / ASCENT
In the morning, we start the ascent to the base camp, located at an altitude of 5500 meters a.s.l. (el. 18,044 feet).
Night at the camp.
All included.
Hiking time: around 4 hours.
Day 3: BASE CAMP – COROPUNA ASCENT (6425 m.a.s.l. / el. 21,080 feet) - AREQUIPA / ASCENT
In the early morning, we start the ascent to Coropuna, by the South route.
Technical equipment is necessary to reach the summit (el. 6425 m.a.s.l. / 21,080 feet).
Return to the base camp and transfer to the hotel in Arequipa.
Lunch included. Dinner open.
Hiking time: around 6 hours.
COROPUNA ascent – 4 days (NORTH ROUTE)
Day 1: AREQUIPA – VIRACO – NORTH FACE BASE (el. 4600 m.a.s.l. / 15,091 feet)
In the early morning, we depart in our private vehicle for the Majes Valley, in the direction of the village of Viraco.
From there we drive through some beautiful lagoons to reach the base of the mountain on the north face, where we will set up our camp.
All included.
Please note: around 10 hours of travel time.
Day 2: BASE OF THE MOUNTAIN (el. 4600 m.a.s.l. / 15,091 feet) – BASE CAMP (el. 5300 m.a.s.l. / 17,388 feet)
Breakfast. We start the ascent to the base camp (six-hour hike).
Night at the camp. All included.
Day 3: BASE CAMP (el. 5300 m.a.s.l. / 17,388 feet) – ASCENT OF CORUPUNA BY THE NORTH FACE (el. 6425 m.a.s.l. / 21,080 feet) BASE CAMP (el. 5300 m.a.s.l. / 17,388 feet)
Breakfast. We leave the camp very early to start the ascent of the Nevado Coropuna peak (el. 6425 m.a.s.l. / 21,080 feet) with the help of technical equipment, at a very slow pace (seven-hour hike).
Return to the base camp in about three hours.
Night in a camp. All included.
Please note: at certain times of the year it is possible to do the ascent on skis.
Day 4: BASE CAMP (el. 5300 m.a.s.l. / 17,388 feet) - AREQUIPA
A two-hour descent takes us to our vehicle.
Transfer to Arequipa (8 hours).
On the way, we stop in several places of interest in the valley.
