Along the way...

At the Northern extremity of Brazil, the state of Roraima constitute one of the last un-explored region of the South American continent, and the refuge of the Yanomamis Indians, one of the most important tribe of the Amazon.
On either side of the main river of the State, the Rio Branco, rises a mountain range of relatively high altitude (about 2000 meters above sea level average).
This relief, marking the natural separation line between the Orénoque and the Amazon Basins, is also the border between Venezuela and Brazil.
The vegetation is typical of the region (first growth dense and tropical forest) and it is estimated that 50% of the species encountered here are endemic.
The temperature oscillates between 8 and 27 degrees and rainfall averages 4,000 mm / year.

Pico da Neblina, highest point in Brazil at el. 3040 m.a.s.l.

Pico de Neblina the roof of Brazil, is located in the core of the Amazonian virgin forest, in one of the wildest sites of this green inferno.
Its name, “Fog Pea”, comes from the clouds and the continuous rains maintaining a very humid atmosphere, without any apparent dry season, in which it bathes.
This frontier area located between Brazil and Venezuela is ruled by international agreements that define the division of the territory.
Neblina peak is on Brazilian territory, and with its 3040 m.a.s.l., constitutes the highest point of this country.

The other sandstone mountains, the “Tepuys”, generally have flat summits and horizontal layers. At Pico de la Neblina, these layers are folded in such a manner that the mountain surface is marked by deep valleys and sharp peaks; along its main axis there is a valley known as Canyon of the Baria river, one of the deepest in the world!

Our expedition leaves from Manaus and the adventure starts as soon as we take off….
